OMAR “MEEZ” JONES, LIFE IN THE TOWN

Omar "Meez" Jones is a biker, photographer, and entrepreneur whose self-avowed best talent is making a living off his lifestyle. His photography made waves when Apple billboards sprung up all over the Bay Area last year featuring a photo of two silhouetted bikers hitting wheelies. One of the bikers was him and the photo was taken by his good friend @Iamkamalx. Meez was thrilled to see a platform of this magnitude benefit a culture he is proud to represent.

Meez’s passion for photography started at an early age when he was simply a kid from the Bay who enjoyed taking pictures with his iPhone 4. He decided to make his lifestyle a career during an overseas trip in 2013 that cemented his passion for visual storytelling. Today, a decade later, he's made a name for himself as a prominent Bay Area photographer.

CELEBRATING THE WORK OF BLACK PHOTOGRAPHERS IN THE GGNRA

THIS YEAR’S NATIONAL THEME FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH IS BLACK HEALTH AND WELLNESS. DO YOU FEEL LIKE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS? IF SO, HOW? WHAT ABOUT SPENDING TIME IN NATURE/PUBLIC PARKLANDS?

Photography has been my main outlet for my mental health. It’s amazing to be out in different environments and meeting new subjects as well. It’s a release of emotions when you’re out, especially in nature, it’s a really great escape from the distractions living in the inner city. The Bay Area has a lot of great places to offer, a lot of places less than a thirty minute drive to some of the most secluded areas.

Meet Omar “Meez” Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar “Meez” Jones.

Hi Omar “Meez”, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
“It all started in Tracy, CA its and hour right outside of the Bay area. I didn’t think it was gonna be a big thing until I picked up a camera and started shooting”. I was just a young kid from the Bay taking pictures where I could and eventually it turned into a lifestyle. Now I’m here, still grinding hard and able to make a difference and influence others in visual art. I wanted to be able to bring my audiences artistic expression and collaborating with global scale brands also be the vessel to show that the impossible can be done.

Roll With Us: Bending Corners and Poppin' Wheelies on Billboards

What I saw as a major tech company leveraging culture to earn cool points, Jones sees as a platform benefiting the culture he represents.

While there's room for both to be true, Jones points out something that I overlooked: we breed hustlers in this region, so he'll figure out a way to make it work in his favor.

On top of that, Jones is working to expand opportunities to a younger generation of East Bay bikers, setting them up with brands and employment opportunities.

Tune in for the second entry on the intersection of wheels, community, and culture as Jones and I discuss biking, billboards, and being a community "big bro."

Meet Meez: he's a Bay Area native and creative that's been BTS of some of your favorite content. Years before he became the professional photographer of Kevin Durant, and an Executive Creative for brands like Cookies, Runntz, and Creme Saverz (exclusive to a pop-up near you), he was just a kid with a bike, a camera, and some very big ambitions. In this episode, host Pershanté Hill asks his friend, why cameras and creativity?, why shoot here in the Bay?, and how does a brand executive do whatever it is exactly, that a brand executive does? The answers: Why not???? Why not dream about making it big, doing what you love, surrounded and supported by the people who believe in not just you, but your dreams as well? And better yet: WHY NOT PUT THOSE DREAMS INTO ACTION? What's the worst that can happen when dreams don't quite get their wings - learning something new? Finding out more about yourself and your circle? Discovering new developments for a business plan or strategy? ....Goals are a process, and to skimp on the process is to degrade the achievement. So the takeaway for E003: Learn to enjoy the adventure, and focus less on the destination; because as soon as you arrive, you're going to be ready to get right back on road. It's as a very wise man once said: "It's about seeing long term, seeing the vision.....and letting the marathon continue."

Hometown Series - Day 10 of 32: Oakland by @iamkamalx “I think it’s very important to lean into your own experience with the city. And for me, what makes the Bay so special is the people that represent this wonderful place. My goal was to capture the originality and vibrance of a few individuals that help make this place a home for me. These photos are a strong representation of the emotions I feel when it comes to the Bay.”

How Bay Area photographer @IAmOmeez uses the power of #SSD to work faster and smarter: http://smbz.us/28MLH0j

Media storage solutions can speed up workflows, as photographer and cinematographer Omar “Omeez” Lockhart-Jones recently found out. When Jones found himself with several photo jobs and a movie that all needed post-processing at once, he made an urgent call to Sean Bryson of BullDogg CPU for help in speeding up his process. As a systems integrator with video and photo experience, Bryson’s advice to Jones was to upgrade his laptop with a new SSD rather than buy a whole new system.  Read More: smbz.us/28MLH0j

TRIBE

Words provided by Michael Casatico

Visuals provided by Omeez Jones, Michael Casatico, Sasan Sayyar & Keoni Mars

Right before winter break concluded, I finally had the chance to link up and shoot some photos with the man, Omeez, of ISO (I Stand Out). ISO, in the most literal sense, is a collective of many talented creatives, artists, photographers, producers and nothing less than a “go getter”. Music, photos, visuals, movies, art, whatever, ISO can do it, as a group, and as a family. It’s always really cool to see so many different, multitalented individuals all working together as a team. When you're constantly surrounded by inspiration, I think it’s hard to not be inspired yourself. That was exactly why I was looking forward to finally linking up with Omeez, and the director of ISO, Keoni Mars.
